    As An Oral Health Therapist

Anna has a primary interest in preventative dentistry, with a focus on educating patients to avoid future disease, and set them up for a lifetime of health.

Throughout her career, Anna has always engaged in continuing education, becoming the first Hygienist in Australia qualified and registered to use lasers in tooth whitening, fillings and the treatment of gum disease.

She also recently completed post-graduate studies at the University of Melbourne to extend her qualifications to include Adult Scope Oral Health Therapy.

Anna takes pride in offering dental treatment in a manner that allows nervous or dental phobic patients to slowly become more comfortable in a dental setting, happily completing gentle, easy appointments before advancing into any appointments which patients may feel anxious or stressed about.

“My dental philosophy is that a little dentistry, performed often gives us the most reason to smile. By establishing good oral health, then maintaining it dentistry becomes affordable, gentle and dare I say it, enjoyable! Who doesn’t love the feel of freshly cleaned teeth?"

    Outside of Dentistry

Anna grew up in Ballina, NSW and left home to attend the University of Queensland and live on campus at Union College. Originally studying Psychology, with a focus on cognition and learning, she decided to continue studying and also complete a Bachelor of Oral Health.

Anna spent 9 years working as an Oral Health Therapist on a fly-in-fly-out basis splitting her time between rural Qld mining towns Biloela and Moranbah, as well as working in Brisbane before joining My Dentist: Cannon Hill.

Outside of Dentistry Anna enjoys playing and watching as much sport as possible. She is a keen Mountain Biker and hiker, competing in endurance adventure races most weekends in the season. She also plays Hockey for the mighty Bulimba Bulls, loves touch football and is an avid Brisbane Lions fan.

Along with her partner Aaron, she aims to cycle tour as many countries as possible, having recently completed a cycle tour from Queenstown to Christchurch across the Crown Range and Lindes Pass.

What do Oral Health Therapists do?

At Face Value Dental, we have six registered oral health therapists. Their aim is to help our patients to achieve optimum oral health through prevention of dental disease.

Our oral health therapists help patients achieve and maintain a beautiful smile through detection and prevention of gum disease and dental decay. It is usually recommended that patients visit oral health therapists for a 40 to 60 minute appointment every six months. During this appointment, the therapist will perform a thorough scale and clean to remove any plaque, tartar and surfaces stains to help keep gums healthy. Patients with gum disease may need to attend more regularly to keep plaque bacteria and tartar at bay.

Our therapists can also assist in recommending what dental/oral hygiene products may be suitable for your individual needs. The therapist will be able to identify and educate you on any genetic, lifestyle or dietary factors that may put you at greater risk of dental disease.

Sports related injuries are extremely common and to avoid major tooth trauma, anyone that plays a contact sport should wear a professionally made mouthguard. Our therapists take a mould of your teeth and our laboratory makes you a custom fitted mouthguard. Poorly fitting mouthguards purchased from the pharmacy can actually cause more harm than good.

Dental therapists play a vitally important role in the dental practice. By seeing our therapists regularly, you have a greater chance of avoiding major dental issues.
