Get Full Arch Implant Restoration at Face Value Dental

Full arch implant restoration – you could replace all your teeth with just 4 implants

If you’re feeling self-conscious about missing or badly damaged teeth, full arch implant restorations could be an option to help you restore your smile.

Unlike traditional dental implants that replace individual teeth one by one, full arch implants can replace all of the upper or lower teeth at once. In most cases, this treatment uses just 4 to 6 implants to support an entire row of teeth. Full mouth implant restoration can use as few as 8 implants to support a complete set of replacement teeth in the mouth.

Full arch implant restoration can offer a permanent solution to missing teeth that look and feel more natural than traditional alternatives, such as dentures.

What is full arch implant restoration?

Full arch implant restoration is a procedure that involves the precise placement of titanium implants in the jaw bone. These serve as anchors for a full dental bridge of artificial teeth that can provide complete rehabilitation for tooth loss.

As this technique is able to provide the same structural support as traditional single implant treatments with fewer implants and fewer incisions, the overall treatment and recovery times are significantly reduced.

What is the difference between full arch implants and removable dentures?

Traditionally, dentures have been the most common treatment option for replacing lost teeth. Although a great solution, dentures can often be uncomfortable to wear and can come with dietary restrictions, such as avoiding crunchy or sticky foods. They also have to be cleaned daily and replaced every few years.

Full arch implant restorations are a great alternative that can provide a more natural look and feel for replacement teeth. As they act as roots of natural teeth, they feel much more natural when chewing and won’t shift around in your mouth. Implants can be cared for just like natural teeth with twice-daily brushing and flossing, and with good care, they could last you a lifetime.

Who is suitable for fixed arch implants?

Our dentists may recommend this treatment if you have lost most or all of your teeth, or if your remaining teeth have been badly damaged by decay or gum disease and need to be removed.

In order to be eligible for this procedure, you must have enough bone for the implants to be placed into. It is also preferable for the candidate to be a non-smoker and to not suffer from diabetes.

The best way to find out if you are a suitable candidate for full arch implant restoration is to book a consult with one of our dentists who specialise in dental implants.

What happens at the consultation?

During your initial complimentary discussion* for dental implants, our Brisbane dentists will give you all the information about what the procedure involves, how much it costs and what the possible risks are, so you can make an informed decision about whether full arch implant restoration is right for you.

If you decide to proceed with implants, we'll schedule a second consultation for a diagnosis. Our dentists will give you a comprehensive oral health assessment using x-rays to determine if full mouth implants are an option, or if you have an existing dental problem that needs to be treated first.

Our dentists can then work with you to develop your personalised treatment plan.

*Terms and Conditions: Complimentary 30-minute consult is valued at $105.00 (item code #015). The complimentary consultation does not include any diagnostic services. However, if you decide at the consultation appointment that you would like to commence this part of the process, an arrangement can be made to include these services on the day of your appointment. In this case, a fee will apply. However, the consult itself will still remain complimentary. Offer is only available at Face Value Dental in Brisbane City It cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. This offer expires on 1st February 2020.

What happens during the procedure?

Our dentists will make sure you have a full understanding of what to expect during the full arch implant procedure. This treatment can sometimes be completed in a single visit, but this depends on the individual case.

Full arch implant restoration generally has 5 stages, which may be completed on one or multiple appointments:

    1. Sedation – We will administer local anesthesia so you won't feel pain during the treatment. You can discuss more sedation options if you have anxiety about dental treatments and need some help to feel calm.
    2. Extraction – If you have any remaining teeth, these will need to be extracted before the implants can be placed. If a large number of teeth need to be extracted, or we spot signs of gum disease or an infection, we may place temporary provisional teeth and continue your implant treatment after your mouth has had time to heal.
    3. Placing the implants – If your mouth is ready for implants to be placed, our dentists will prepare the implant sites to avoid infection. We'll then carefully make incisions in your gum and place the titanium implants securely in the jaw. In most cases, two implants are placed towards the front of the mouth and two at the back, but you may need additional implants depending on the size and condition of your jaw.
    4. Placing the dental bridge – Once the implants have been placed, we will clean and disinfect the treated areas and attach your artificial dental bridge. These replacement teeth are designed by our dentists to look as close to natural teeth as possible and will be securely anchored by the implants.
    5. Recovery – You can then head to the recovery room to recover from the anesthetic, taking care to avoid exertion and to follow your dentist's advice about food and pain management.

What's the recovery time for full arch implants?

Recovery after full mouth implant restoration is usually shorter than for standard dental implants, but it can still take between 3 to 6 months to recover fully.

On the day of the surgery, you will be provided with gauze to help control bleeding from the implant sites. This gauze should be changed every 30 minutes until the bleeding stops. You should avoid touching your mouth for the first day after treatment, except for rinsing gently using water or an antibacterial rinse.

You can improve your chance of a full recovery by following your dentist's advice and:

      • eating soft foods
      • getting plenty of rest
      • avoiding strenuous activities
      • not smoking

What are the risks?

As with any surgical procedure, there is always a minor possibility of risks with full arch implant restoration. Our dentists take every precaution to minimise these risks, and we'll make sure you have all the information before you agree to the treatment so that you can make an informed choice.

Possible risks include infection of the implant sites, damage to nerves or blood vessels and possible sinus problems with implants placed in the upper jaw. You will likely feel some pain and discomfort after the procedure, but this can usually be managed using over-the-counter pain relief and home remedies.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
